Cash accounts can be held in other currencies

Pick a currency when you add a cash account by hand. Your balance is kept in that currency and counted in your own at today's exchange rate.

Until now every cash balance you typed in was assumed to be in your portfolio currency, so a US dollar savings account had to be converted by hand before you entered it, and was out of date as soon as the rate moved. The Add account form on the Portfolio page now has a Currency list. Choose the currency the account is actually held in and type the balance as your bank shows it.

How it's counted

A balance in another currency shows in its own currency on the Portfolio page, with what it's worth in yours underneath. Total Cash, your net worth, the Dashboard's Cash and Balance Sheet widgets and the phone app all use that converted figure, at the latest daily exchange rate we hold, so it moves with the rate.

Interest

If you enter an interest rate, the estimated interest for the year is worked out on the converted balance, so it follows the exchange rate too.

Nothing is guessed

If we have no exchange rate for an account's currency it is shown as not in total and left out of every figure, never added at face value. The currencies on the list all have rates.

What hasn't changed

Accounts you added before this stay in your portfolio currency. Edit one to give it a currency. Linked bank balances were already converted. Property, pensions, debts and other hand-entered assets are still entered in your portfolio currency.
