IN PLAIN ENGLISH
How what you own is split up. A mortgaged home counts only for the part you own outright, so it doesn't swamp everything else.
FULL DEFINITION
Each asset class on the Portfolio page — stocks and funds, cash, crypto, property, pensions, bonds, precious metals, collectible cards, other — as a percentage of all of them together.
EXAMPLE
Stocks £60,000, cash £10,000 and a £300,000 home with a £270,000 mortgage (£30,000 equity). The classes add up to £100,000, so stocks are 60.0%, cash 10.0% and property 30.0%.
HOW IT'S CALCULATED
Share = that class's value ÷ the sum of every class × 100. Property counts as its equity (see Property Equity). Debts that aren't tied to a property — loans, cards — come off net worth but not off any class, so the shares always add up to 100%. A class worth less than nothing (a property in negative equity) is left out of the sum. Anything left out of net worth — a wallet still being valued, a card or metal not yet priced, a bank balance with no exchange rate, a bank whose access expired — is left out here too. A holding's "of assets" figure is its value ÷ the same sum.
