IN PLAIN ENGLISH
Around 1 means the fund has risen and fallen about as much as the market. Below 1 means smaller moves, above 1 bigger ones.
FULL DEFINITION
How much a fund's returns have moved with the market over the last three years, measured against a benchmark chosen by the data provider.
EXAMPLE
With a beta of 0.92, a 10% fall in the benchmark has typically come with a fall of about 9.2% in the fund.
HOW IT'S CALCULATED
Not calculated by the app. The three-year beta published by the market data provider, from the fund's monthly returns against its benchmark, so it describes how the fund has moved rather than how it will. Shares show Beta instead, which most funds have no figure for. Hidden when the provider has none.
