GLOSSARY

Return Yield

Portfolio Metrics

IN PLAIN ENGLISH

Your paper profit as a percentage. Despite sitting under a label reading 'Yield', this is a capital return figure, not a dividend yield — dividend income is measured separately by Annual Yield.

FULL DEFINITION

Unrealised return expressed as a percentage of the remaining cost basis.

EXAMPLE

Return = £400 on Total Cost of £1,200. Return Yield = 400 ÷ 1,200 × 100 = 33.33%.

HOW IT'S CALCULATED

Return Yield = (Total Value − Total Cost) ÷ Total Cost × 100. Returns 0 when Total Cost is zero.
