GLOSSARY

Unrealised gain

Portfolio Metrics

IN PLAIN ENGLISH

A gain on shares you still hold — on screen until you sell.

WHERE YOU MEET IT

The Unrealised Gains tile in Stat Tiles, and each holding's gain.

WATCH OUT FOR

It isn't taxed, or yours, until you sell.

FULL DEFINITION

Paper profit or loss on shares still held, adjusted for holdings written down to zero.

EXAMPLE

Holdings worth £1,600 that cost £1,200. Unrealised Gains = £400.

HOW IT'S CALCULATED

Unrealised Gains = (Total Value − Total Cost) + write-offs, where write-offs are the remaining cost basis of any still-held position whose price is zero. That amount is added back here because it is counted as a realised loss instead.
