A Bar Chart set to Dividends received can track a monthly income target — the Monthly Dividend Goal in its ⚙ settings — against your monthly average: the dividends recorded over the last twelve months, divided by twelve. That's a record of what has been paid, so a holding bought recently counts only the payments it has made so far. Switch on Include estimated cash interest in the same settings and a year's interest at the rates you entered for your cash accounts, divided by twelve, is added to that figure; the widget then says how much of it is interest.

The forward view is a Bar Chart set to Estimated dividends, whose total is your projected annual income for the next twelve months. A target at or below that projection is one your holdings are already expected to pay, and the goal's progress bar will get there as the payments arrive. A target above it is a gap, and the gap is a number: the extra yearly income it needs, which only changes when the holdings, their dividends or the target do. The Goals widget shares the same monthly figure, so changing it in one changes both.

The planner's progress bar uses the last twelve months, not the projection. The tool below shows both.

0 of 5 done
  1. Add Bar Chart to your dashboard, set it to Estimated dividends in its ⚙ settings, and note its Total: the next twelve months, projected. Open your dashboard →
  2. Divide that Total by twelve. It's the monthly income your holdings are already expected to pay.
  3. Add a second Bar Chart, set it to Dividends received, and open its ⚙ settings.
  4. Enter a Monthly Dividend Goal, and compare it with the projection in the tool below.
  5. Compare the two again each month: the projection moves when holdings or dividends change, the progress bar as payments arrive.

Your projection covers 80% of this target, leaving a gap of 600.00 a year.

  • At an illustrative 4.0% yield, the gap is the income from about 15,000. Arithmetic, not a plan: yields move, and dividends get cut as well as raised.
